142e not charging, HELP! 140-160

Help!

About 2 weeks ago, my battery stoped holding a charge, I could tell it was dying because upon starting I could hear the starter begin to strain to crank. I replaced the battery and it is now about 2 weeks later and its starting to happen again. the amperage light in the dash does not indicate that it is not charging, and Im pretty sure that the alternator is good beings how once jump started, it ran fine off of the flat dead battery. I have a little amp guage hooked up under the hood and it leans to the discharge side and leans further when the engine is revved. What could it be? any help would be really appreciated!
