Diesel?

A large percentage of passenger cars in Europe is diesel powered. Diesels used to be slow smelly sooty noisy cars, but modern technology (common-rail direct injection) coupled to a turbo has made them at least as fast as petrol (gas) engines of approx. the same size. No wonder that even the big BMWs and Mercedes are available with some very nice diesel-engines, and Jaguar presented its first diesel-powered X-type (albeit with a Ford diesel-engine).

Now I wonder, are diesel powered passenger cars sold in the USA? Are there American cars with a diesel engine (the Chrysler Voyager made and sold here is available with a diesel engine, but I mean the American cars made for the American market)?
