tailgate ball joints access 200

Problem: The ball joint supporting one of the tailgate support struts has come loose and I can't work out how to access the nut inside the car body to tighten it up. Is it possible to tighten it anyway, or is the problem that the nut should be welded to the body, and the weld has broken? Or is it simpler than that, and am I just stupid? Grateful for any advice,
