After fillup, there is a SERIOUS gas smell. A leak perhaps? 700

This only seems to happen after I fill up the tank on my 88 760T. After driving about an 1/8 of a tank out of it, the smell subsides. Any ideas as to the cause? There is no gas leaking onto the ground and I have even looked under the rear and see no damp spots anywhere. I'm stumped. I had to pull the brick out of the garage last night as around 1am the smell of gasoline was filling the house! I'd hate to have to leave it outside for this reason!
