Repair shop arrogance.

It doesn't just happen in the States !!
Here in the UK I took my Volvo 940GLE Turbo to a garage near home for its annual roadworthiness test (The MOT).
The guy told me that some bushes had gone on the steering and suspension links at the front end. At the time I wasn't very well so I asked them to do the job.
I paid the bill (£200.00 plus), and drove the car away complete with its new MOT certificate.
Before I had even reached home, I noticed that the steering was shaking all over the place between 50mph and 70mph (it had previously been rock steady). I returned to the garage and they told me the steering needed re-aligning and that there would be a £30.00 charge. I said that they should have realigned the steering after they had done their work, to make sure it was safe to drive.
The owner told me it was tyre pressures, which I knew was untrue as I'd already checked those myself. They re-balanced both front wheels on a broken tyre balancing machine which they spun up by hand using second hand weights which they cut in half with a pair of tin snips (the guy said he'd run out of weights) !!!
I decided to take the car to a main Volvo dealer, who found that not only had they NOT replaced ANy of the bushes (some of them were still crusted up with dirt so obviously hadn't been disturbed), but that they had obviously tried, and failed to remove a tie rod and bent it, probably putting a jack under it. They also found that it should not have passed the MOT test because the rear brake pads were absolutely shot. One was about as thin as a shim!
I had this garage re-check the work, and repair what was necessary, and then returned to the original garage and gave them a copy of a written report of what the main dealers had found.
I also told them that I would take them to court and notify our local newspaper about their deception if I didn't get a full refund.
I got my cheque back the next day. These guys are nothing but crooks and I hope you pass the word round about the one you used, as I am certainly doing it about the one I used.
