Steering wheel and key locking b/f starts (94 960) 900

Y'all probably know what I'm talking about...sometimes when you park on a hill or something, you gotta jiggle the steering wheel b/f the key will turn. Well, it's doing that to my almost every time I park now, even on completely level ground. And, it's getting harder and harder to jiggle the wheel to get the key to turn. I still have not been stranded by it (yet), but ski season is coming up and I know I will have to be parking on at least some slight inclines. Anyone able to pinpoint the problem and have approximate costs for indy shop repairs. I am not a mechanic, and I'm not playing around with this myself.
Love this car, but god, what a money pit.

Auto RX test under way (101k), will fill you all in if there is a noticeable difference 2k miles from now. Pretty much running like a champ except for the steering wheel thing. (knocking on wood right now....)
