68 Amazon Wagon w/ damaged rear axel threads 120-130

Hi All, I was going to put new rear brake shoes on the 220 wagon. I bought this crappy puller from eastwood, its for the front hub on a jeep, it has a smaller dia extracter bolt w/ a point on the end. My mistake was that I assumed the point on the end would just flatten when I put the torque on it. Anyway I ended up expanding the end of the axel and the nut wouldnt go back on. Can I clean up the threads w/ out removing the axel? and does anyone know what size the threads are?
thanks
Pete
