advise - cylinder head replacement 120-130

based on the wisdom of the previous posts, I'm looking for some advise also. Somewhere during the next weeks, I am about to replace the cylinder head of my B20, due to cracks in the water jackets, with a refurbished head (leadfree conversion). Any wise advise, things NOT to do, sequence stuff (FIRST do ..., THEN ...), caution ! ... would be appreciated.
I also have lying around an original Volvo water pump, never used. Would it be a good idea to replace it at the same time, now that I'm at it ? Or could there be alignment issues if I remove both head and pump at the same time ?
Thanks for sharing your wisdom,
safe driving to all
John
