stalling upon accleration 200 1989

Hi everyone,
I have an 89 240 wagon which was running pretty well until yesterday. It began to stall and hesitate upon acceleration as I was driving. When I tried to drive home from work, it would die when I pressed on the gas pedal. In park and neutral, I could rev the engine but it was very rough and would backfire. When I put it in drive it would die if I tried to accelerate. I checked the post and removed the AMM connection and it did not change a thing. Any suggestions?
