91 740 Front End Tie Rod Lock Nuts 700

I tore apart the front end of the 740 today and am replacing all the bushings, strut inserts, ball joints, and tie rod ends. I was able to get the tie rod lock nuts loose a turn or so but they are very tight. The inner tie rods are nice and tight so I really don't want to replace them. Is it okay to heat up the lock nuts so that I can loosten them up? If this is not a problem I would put a wet rag on the shaft close to the boot so as not to burn it up. My concern is that the inner tie rod shaft may lose the temper if it is indeed tempered. Also, one of the lock nuts is badly rounded. I found a nut that fits fine. I believe it was from a 240 trailer hitch bolt but am not 100% certain. Is there anything special about this nut? Thank you.
