rear defrost on 240 wagons 200 1992

ok, so i've been having this problem with my rear defrost system, the fuse for my rear defrosters is out, but whenever i step on the brakes, the light [for the rear defroster] comes on as well as a "brake light out" warning light.

So I called an electrician and he said that usually, wire's break with the constant wear from opening and closing of the tail gate. So then I looked at it and sure enough there is a wire on both sides that is breaking. To find this wire you must open your tailgate, and right next to/on the hinges, it is a grey wire right next to a bigger black wire, i'm wondering if anyone know's what this wire is or what it goes to, my first thought was to put some solder on it and complete the connection, but i don't want to screw up the electrical system any more than it already is. thanks!
