Smelly 240 . . .PHEW!!! 200

Well I've owned the 1988 240 (77,000 miles)for about a month, and the experience has been pretty good except that yesterday, for no reason, the car started smelling kind of like dogs--t! I don't own a dog, and none was tracked into the car by anybody. Started smelling in dry weather, not wet. Did get colder outside. The car is very clean, is garaged with no rust, doesn't make sense. The only thing I can think of is that the last few days I have tried the heater seats (because of the cold) to see if they work (they don't seem to). Could the hot wires be burning the foam or something like that? Any suggestions anybody? Thanks, Fred
