How should my car be handling the bumps 200

My volvo is the only one I've ever been in so I don't have a clear understanding of how it should handle. Its a 1990 244. It has GT sway bars and heavy duty rear springs. When I drive over a dump, even at very slow speed the rear end takes it pretty hard and "jumps". On the open road around a corner the rear will also jump if there is a bump there. Shocks are original and when I push down on the truck the car rebounds fine. Springs are heavy duty but the car did the same with the old original springs. Is this just how all volvos handle or is there something that needs to be changed.
