Steering lock won't release 700 1990

My 1990 760 turbo wagon with 270K is being towed to me after my wife reports she can't turn the lock to release the steering wheel--had a locksmith look at it--no luck. Checked the archives, and I get the picture that to remove the lock cylinder if the key won't turn at all, I'm going to have to drill it out. Can anyone clarify the job in front of me? Thanks.
