Stripped Bolt! Big Deal or Not? 200

If the bolt is in "nice 'n snug," then leave it and watch it. If you suddenly detect slushy steering in corners and/or a hammering or clunking sound on rough pavement, examine the bolt to see if it has pulled out a few threads or maybe is gone. (That would allow the pillow block to flex up 'n down, suported only by the remaining bolt, and slap the chassis.)

That's the time to retap the hole and use a larger bolt. You might find the next larger SAE size will work fine, whereas going to the next metric size would be a big jump.
