No Start! 700 1991

I took out the heater fan resistor today on the Volvo 740 wagon as the fan only runs on setting 5. Later I decided to move the car with the resistor still removed and it refuses to start. I am wondering if the two are somehow connected. will the resitor being removed somehow affect the eletronics and prevent the car from starting. I could just plug it all back in and test but the connectors were a real bear to remove. Stupid question likley.
