The noise can best be described as a loud metalic swishing, heard from when the car is started cold until it warms up a bit, when it goes away. My thoughts are: 1)the water pump is dying. 2)The fan clutch is not fully dis/engaging. I have observed no problems with cooling, unless you consider running up to just below the red line while sitting in traffic on the Staten Island Expressway a problem. Any trouble-shooting tip would be appreciated.
On a side note, what is the issue with the fuel pump relays? It sounds like this is something I should pull and check out before there is a problem. Out of lack of knowledge, my method with electronics has always been if its not broken, don't fix it.
Finally, are there any junk yards/recycle/u-pull-its in the Lancaster Co. area who have a few bricks for the picking??? I miss the little place where I bought my car up on Cape Cod, outside Otis AFB. The guy always had a couple of 240s sitting in the pit. B/C I bought both my current Volvo and one other that my wife used to drive from him, he let me pick to my hearts content.
Thanks,
Doug in Pennsylvania
