High pitch whine, help needed 200 1985

My 240 has developed an odd high pitched whine, kicks in around 40, and gets progressively higher in pitch as you increase speed. Pitch does not change through turns at constant speed, so I can eliminate front wheel bearings? Pitch does not change with engine speed, I can kick it out of OD at 60 and the pitch stays the same. I can cross off engine/front side of transmission bearings? However, pitch changes regularly with speed, and application of brakes does not really affect it either. I am guessing either a bad bearing in the tail of the transmission, rear end, or somewhere else? Thanks.
