The cases aren't quite the same either, but AFAIK the only difference is that the oil filler hole is slightly higher on an M41 case, to ensure that oil fills the OD properly I suppose.

Taking an tranny apart, mixing and matching the parts, and getting it to work properly when all back together is not an easy task. I'd suggest you just find a working M41 and save yourself the headache.
