Changing ICU; 1986 240 DL 200 1986

Hi,

I am wanting to change the ICU (the front under hood comp) and the ignition harness. I am hoping someone here can describe what the specific problem is that "wrecks" one or the other of the parts.

Is it just the connector gets mangled and doesn't fit very well anymore?? I could open up the ICU and repair that I would think... The Bentley says pulling the Ignition Harness from the ICU causes you to need a new ICU...
