Another O/D problem 200 1983

I have read through the archives and didn't find what I believe to be my problem... I have an 83 244 GL. The probem is the O/D. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Seems to work more often when its cold. I hear the relay working every time when I press the button. I also hear a change in transmission sound but it does not always engage. In fact more times then not. Once I get it in O/D, I almost hate to have to get out of it. Transmission fluid was topped off which seemed to help some. I was told that adding a 1/2 cup of brake fluid to the transmission would solve the problem. Any suggestions?
