Sunroof and area badly corroded, need repair advice. 200 1981

About ten years ago sign of corrosion appeared on the sunroof of my son's 240 DL. Now, not only the sunroof is badly corroded but the surounding area is also in poor shape.

Corrosion is about four inch wide and crusty at one place.

As a solution I was thinking about removing the roof cover and corroded area and use sheetmetal from a donor car. I would cut the roof of a donor car that has no sunroof and mig-weld on with an overlap of 1/4 inch.

Would that be good?

Anyone has an idea?

Anybody has gone through this with success?

Thank you for your reply.
