Steering U-Joints 200 1985

Ok, I installed a new steering rack, and I missed by one tooth! The old pinion didn't care, as it had a groove all the way around to accommodate the bolt that clamps the u-joint onto the pinion. But the pinion on the new rack only has a single 'flat' cut through one side it, and now the clearance for the clamp bolt is a little tight.

I have found it pretty difficult to separate the steering shaft u-joint from the pinion on the steering rack. Does anyone have any good tips for making this a little easier?

Thanks in advance!
