Seat swap..pre and post 86, no sweat? 200

I would love to do something about my bad drivers seat on my 89 240, it has the traditional back split and slip.

I have seen a post claiming the older pre 86 seats will bolt right in. These seats are supposed to wear better and hold shape better than 86-93 models.

I know a dealer in town here who has many pre 86 seats in his attic. He told me they do not just bolt in on the post 86 cars, headrests not withstanding.

What's the real truth here? I would like to put the earlier seats in.
