1990 240 DL Wagon running rough after new clutch install???? 200 1990

Greeting fellow brick drivers:

I just had a new clutch installed in my wagon at 281,000 plus miles. Clutch guy thinks it was the original clutch. Clutch is great now but the engine is running like crap.

Symptons are: Lots of pinging at 3/4 to full throttle. Very rough and erratic idle. Dies when I come to a stop unless I play with the gas peddle.

I just made a trip to Portland and logged 600 miles with the new clutch. Car could cruise at 80 on flats but in the hills, I was lucky to stay at 55 in 3rd gear.

Tonight I installed new plugs (Bosch Platinum) and still the same. I have to special order a new rotor / distributer cap on Monday.

Any other things I should look at before taking it to the shop. I have owned the vehicle for over 4 years and put 81,000 miles on it. Only work that I have had done on the vehicle are timing belts, a tune up about 40,000 miles ago, an alternater rebuild, brakes, new exhaust, and now the clutch.

The engine ran like a champ before the clutch replacement.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ed
