radio code and key code 900

after jump starting my 960 had to reset the radio code..not knowing what was what i searched here and found out i had to reset the code wich should have come with the docs with the car but didnt...read a post about calling a dealer with the VIN and getting the code and also the key code for later use if needed..
after not but a couple months ago seeing a TV article about thieves calling dealers for key codes and then stealing the car with a made key from the code,
i tho i might have a bit of a problem,,not so,in five min i had both codes...
wonder why they bother coding either..??..
so,,if you lose a code,,call a dealer with the VIN..
