Knock sensor, intermittent 'check engine light' 700 1990

Hello,
I keep having a intermittant check engine light on my 90 745ti. I retreived the code which came up as a 3-1-2, which is in Chilton manual is Knock sensor enrichment signal. I checked 700 faqs, and said to check the wiring, everythings looks new! I read that a faulty KS does'nt throw a code, whats up?
Whats funny is that the "light" comes and goes? One day its on, one day its off.
The car does'nt seem to have any knock, not under load too. Do KS's go bad frequently? Will a intermittant light mean that the senor is going bad?
I did relocate the KS wire away from the alternator too.
Another note, I by passed the EGR valve, not using it. If that helps?
Thanks for any advise!
