Shops are not in the game to butcher unis and have to rectify them at their own expense, all experienced mechanics use a vise and hammer like precision tools. the trick is to remove all burrs, rust and crud from bores and machined surfaces so that assembly goes smoothly, most weekend mechanics dont do this and end up in lots of trouble. your man is honest enough i would stick with him. Regards Jack McIntyre.
