pricing 700 1988

i am also looking for new shocks/struts for my 88 740 wagon. i dont think i can afford bilsteins on my student budget, but i guess i can understand the cost, i mean, if u are that picky about handling and performance. i am wondering what would be the best way to go, if i am planning on lowering the car, just to have a reasonably smooth ride. right now, the stock ride is really bumpy, and harsh overall, so im thinking anything at all would be better. i dont wanna spend as much as the bilsteins cost, but i also dont wanna have to replace them next year or something.
