Is ignition coil dependent on distributor for spark?

No: the primary circuit is triggered by the ignition control unit through the power stage amplifier, sending a square wave to the coil. This then creates the high voltage secondary pulse which goes to the distributor cap, thence through the rotor and to the plug wire, causing spark at the plug.
