Brake light and reverse light not working 200 1988

Our '90 240DL had no brake lights or backup lights when we bought it. The problem with the brake lights was the pedal switch. These switches can't be repaired, but they're easy to test if you have a continuity tester or multimeter. It is an absolute PAIN to remove the switch. I actually removed the driver's seat and bolster pad beneath the steering column to give me more room to work. Replacing the switch had the added bonus of fixing the cruise control. I ended up getting the replacement switch from a PNP donor car. Good luck.
