Braking causes moderate vibration 200 1986

My 86 240 with 230,000 miles vibrates noticably when I apply the brakes. The vibration only happens when the car is going downhill. There is no pulling to one side or the other. Rear brakes were recently replaced (the vibration was happening prior to replacing the brakes), the front ones are about 6 months old. The mechanic suggested replacing the rotors. Does anyone have any experience with this?
I would appreciate any advice.
