front downpipe help 200 1990

Calling all exhaust experts...

Today I removed the heat shield from my front downpipe - the one on top of the Y section. The rattling was driving me crazy! Unfortunately, I think I created a slightly bigger monster...After knocking it off (mistake), I discovered that I must have created a tiny hole on the top of the pipe where the heat shield attaches to the downpipe. Now I get that put-put-put sound when I accelerate, similar to a manifold problem.

My questions:
1. Is there a product that will effectively seal this?
2. If not, will I need to drop the downpipe and have it welded or can it be welded with the downpipe in place??

Thanks all,
