Finally putting in new clutch 200

Well after a few months with the new clutch sitting in the closet I started the process today, and of course I have a few questions. First, I have (it's my wife's) an '85 240DL wagon, can I do this job without taking the exhaust off? From the looks of it from under the car I should be able to do everything with the exhaust on. Are the nuts that hold the driveline to the trans and rear end one time use only? On my BMW you have to use new nuts each time because they are slightly oval shaped to keep from coming undone. Lastly, do I just use lots of extensions and a wobbly to get to the top bolts of the trans? It looks pretty tight up there but I don't know for sure. Do I drop the back of the engine an inch for clearance? Thanks for any help.
