overdrive problem on 240 wagon 200 1983

I just bought a 1983 Volvo 240 and took it to the shop to replace the clutch and fix the overdrive (which wasn't working at all). Now the overdrive works fine for about 10 minutes, but after that my car dies (speedometer starts falling, no matter how much gas I'm giving it, and 15 seconds later all the warning lights come on and the engine is off). I can use the overdrive right after, but the car dies again. The guy at the shop wasn't sure what it was, and I'm driving across the U.S. soon, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
