What's with this weird 244 brake light failure ?? 200

I searched the archives a bit but didn't see something like this so...

When we bought our 85 244 exactly one month ago I checked all of the lights but now the brake lights have gone screwy.

Lights turned on and hit the brake pedal... no bulb failure indicator but *no brake lights*.

Lights turned off and hit the brake pedal... only the right brake light works and I *do* get the failure indication. I can actually apply the brakes, rotate the light switch back and forth and the right brake light will come on and go off!

So what's the deal?

Cheers,

Ron
Hoping to fix this thing before I get a ticket!
