fishy or not??? 900

Looked at a 94 940 with a B230F in it on a lot, with a friend who's thinking of buying..I'm familiar with these engines, owning 2 700's.
The distributer is located on the front side, rather than on the back top of the head, like i'm used to. Is this a normal thing to find on a 94 volvo??

I was under the impression that they all moved the dizzy to the back top of the cam before the 90's....unless they swapped another engine into this immaculate body/interior of a volvo...

Any help is appreciated! Josh
