Tranmission needs replacing. I am a pretty handy shade tree mechanic. Tough job? 200 1979

Hey guys. My daughter's cream 1979 242DL Lambda Sond automatic transmission will no longer settle into drive gear. Kickdown not the problem. It needs another AW55 tranny from a junkyard. Is a volvo mechanic required for this or can I fairly easily drop out the old one and put the new one in place? What is the usual price for this? I would really like to do it if its not too much. What gaskets do I need to put the "new" in if I do it? Are there good instructions anywhere on line or one of the manuals? A new rebuild job is $1100. Too much.
