Gas tank puncture on plastic 940 tank, Can it be repaired? 900

The little woman was driving down the road the other day and could not avoid hitting one of those big road reflectors that are buried in the pavement. It must have been popped out of the pavement by a snow plow, and was kicked up by another car.
I am trying to get the county to pay for the 350.00 tank. But inevitably, I will probably have to repair, or replace it.
Is there any way to repair a small hole in these plastic tanks? How about j-b weld? Can I somehow melt some platic into the hole with a soldering iron?
I have had two other old volvos with patched tanks, and they leaked. I don't want another leaker.
