What's up with Scan Tech heater valves? 200 1981

Maybe I've missed other posts on this subject. I got a Scan-Tech heater control valve from FCP Groton a few weeks back. Looked over the instructions quite a few times, seemed like a bad translation and some things were quite confusing. Went ahead and tackled the job today. Those instructions were completely worthless! I don't know if my '81 is different than later 240s or what but they gave me 2 new hoses, some sort of plastic clamp, a piece of sticky foam and a new control cable that I didn't use. There was absolutely no mention of how to mount the heater valve in the new bracket (except that part of the old bracket had to be cut?). I ended up drilling through the new bracket and mounting it to the plastic valve with a couple of short sheet metal screws. The new bracket slid right into the slots on the heater box where the old bracket came out. I was able to re-use both the old heater hoses and the old cable too. However, it was complete guesswork on how to put this whole thing together so that it woukd work.

I'm curious if anyone else had these issues with these valve kits and how they solved the plastic valve into the metal bracket problem. Mine works but without some serious reverse engineering and guesswork, I don't know how anyone could ever get one of these things in. The good news is, I have controlled heat now, not all-on or all-off. However, I don't really like the looks of that plastic valve with crimped fitings compared to the good old fashioned copper, brass and steel in the old unit.
