alternator questions 200

The voltage on my 93 245 started fluctuating from about 12 to 14 volts every 30 seconds or so. The belts are tight, the wiring is good, and I swapped in a new regulator with no effect. I've concluded that the alternator (80 watt unit) is bad. My questions are:

1. Should I have it rebuilt, rebuild it myself, or buy a rebuilt one? If doing it myself, what's involved?

2. Do the rebuilt ones come w/out the pulley and if so, how do you hold the pulley steady in order to take off the pulley nut on the old alternator?

Thanks.
