Drop in RPM when turning on headlights 900 1995

940 Non-Turbo

My car would shudder with drop in RPM to about 500-600 whenever I turn on the headlights, and worst still when I put on the high beam. But the drop in RPM would move back up after 4-5 seconds.

Is there a voltage drain somewhere or short in the wires. I'm not good at electricity so I would really appreciate a little more details when you reply.
Incidentally my idling does not hold a steady 750 but rather waver between that and 900. Maybe the two problems are related.
