flexplate position on transmission install 700

I removed the auto transmission on my 740 with the B230F engine to replace the rear engine seal. I did not check the flexplate position and installed incorrectly. I want to make SURE I do it right this time as this is not a fun job! The FAQ section indicates the "gap" in the pattern of holes on the flexplate should be at the bottom of the starter opening at TDC (cam spocket aligned with timing mark on back of cover) Also, is there an easier way to attach the torque converter to the flexplate than the way I am doing. Due to the "hump" on the transmision to make room for the starter, I can put it in the transmission and mate it to the engine. I had to mount the flexplate to the engine and put the torque converter in the transmission and then try and align up the 4 bolts to mount the two together. Not fun as it takes a perfect match. This job has been a n education and will temper my desire to tackle a "big one" for a while.
