I've never had to pull a Volvo head but when I've done that on lesser engines, I've always gone over the valves and replaced seals ground them, etc. You may want to have a look at any rubber parts in that area. Easy to work on on the bench. Be careful to evenly release the tension on the cam bearings so you don't crack the cam.
