Headlights- electrical question 200 1986

Bob,

I have looked very carefully for a brass bristle or anything that might be jumping the current to enable the relay and have the lights come on, but find nothing.

A test light reveals that fuses 1, 2, and 3 have voltage on the feed side (as well as 6-10 but Bruce pointed out that is normal). Both you and Bruce suggest swapping in a different headlight switch and he outlines further tests to conduct to determine if the headlight or ignition switch is at fault. I will try that tomorrow. I have several parts cars so a switch is available. If it turns out to be a headlight switch I will have to wonder what caused it to malfunction while simply cleaning up the fuse block with the battery connected. Thanks for your response and explanation concerning the reality of the lights coming on simply by an outside source of power activating the relay. I'm learning...
