Aha! I switched from round to square, (round light holders completely rusting out as though made my cheaper manufacturer) taking one wire connector from square car.

Couldn't figure out how donor wasn't driving on high beams. Spent some time looking at the bulbs, wondering if I'd spliced wrong, etc.
