1989 744GL Condenser fan - FAULT TRACING??? 700

Merry Xmas folks,

I have used a battery to test the used condenser fan that is to be put into my car 1989 744GL. It spins up and looks like it is functioning properly. However, when I hooked it up and tested the fan in-car (by shorting out the thermo switch at the rad) I end up blowing fuse seven. I am wondering what is the best method for finding the fault. The relay on the shock tower is just for Radio suppression, I do not have 2 relays here. Anyone familiar with the repair aspect or have electical diagrams for my year and model of vehicle showing where the wires go, where the relay is located and how to fault trace this problem?

Thanks in advance,

Tim.
