Slick 50, Prolong, et al. Good for Bricks? 700 1990

I'm thinking of giving my lovely 135,000 mile 745 a 'Slick 50' or 'Prolong' engine oil treatment as I would like to keep it going for many more happy miles. The engine is very strong, quiet, pulls well and appears to be in excellent condition.

Do any of you use such oil addtives and if so, are they any good?

I am a bit wary of such products as I have never used them before, have heard conflicting reports about their efficacy and Volvo says that you shouldn't use oil additives in a Brick's engine.

Should I just continue changing the oil every 6,000 miles, using a quality engine oil and genuine Volvo filter?

Your thoughts please!
