HELP! Possibly stranded in D.C. 700 1990

Sounds like your coolant is gone. Besides the obvious (leak at radiator or water pump), check the heater valve. It is in front of the firewall, follow the heater hoses until you feel it, it's a plastic metal thing with a vacuum line on it (hard to see). They are known for failing at about the 10 year point. You can also check for a catastrophic leak by filling with water and seeing if it drains out (like at the heater valve). Do not leave water in the engine overnight (winter...freeze...cracked block). Hopefully all is OK with your motor. Good luck.
