Speedo problem on '89 240 wagon 200

I posted a problem with the '89 240 wagon for my daughter. My mechanic said the speedometer was reading fast. He failed to tell me why. I learned from the board that it was related to wrong tire size. Suggestions included 1. Get the right sized tires. Makes very good sense. If only I had the spare 400.00 for the new tires. Plan B is to put a sedan speedo in the wagon. Again, sounded good to me. I purchased one on eBay.. although I was cautioned by the seller:

I have seen alot of these listed lately that say "Will fit ALL 240's, 82 to 93"... Well it will bolt in but it will NOT work in all of them, The "K" number has to match!

Well, of course, my k number (9800) does not match. This is a "K 40168". I plugged it in anyway.. and the seller was right.. the d@#*ed thing doesn't work at all. I'm confident yet not certain that, in fact, this speedo did work when it was pulled. I have no reason to believe this one is a dud. I've had very good experience buying dozens of Volo items this way.

Before I go back to the seller, does anyone have experience with matching a sedan (92) speedo with a wagon (89)?

By the way. I am going to do the right thing. I'm planning on purchasing the correct tires for the wagon. I have two 240 sedans, and one could use a new set.

Thanks for reading this.

Larry
